New Bulgarian University (NBU) – Sofia was established on September 18, 1991 by a decision of the Bulgarian Parliament. The National Assessment and Accreditation Agency, which inspects teaching in higher education institutions in Bulgaria, gave NBU maximum accreditation in three successive accreditations in 2001, 2006, 2012 and 2019
Since 2004, NBU has been an accredited partner of Open University UK. The research activity at NBU is organized by the teaching communities of the departments and centers. Among the main priorities of the NBU’s research policy are the transformation of the university into an international research center and its integration into many international university networks, the development of project activity, the development of interdisciplinary research and the integration of scientific research and teaching. The university equips laboratories for research purposes. Currently, the NBU has 34 laboratories. NBU has a developed network of IT infrastructure under the management of the Department of Telecommunications, which is working to create an experimental academic telecommunications technology park on the territory of the university.
